When I first started writing, all I ever heard was ‘you’ll never make any money’. For some people that is true, but that stigma puts a false limit on writers.
So many people accept that as truth and never even try to rise above it because they genuinely think it’s pointless.
But now that I’m more involved with the author community, I KNOW that old chestnut is actually a load of crap.
You CAN make money but first you have to believe it’s possible, then you have to work your ass off! So many authors are happy to share their journey and there are thousands of books and podcasts out there telling you step by step how to do it. So keep digging, keep learning and make this dream your job!
Here are my top 5 author podcasts:
1. The Creative Penn
2. Self Publishing Formula
3. Self Publishing Roundtable
4. Writing Excuses
5. Sell More Books Show
That’s the beauty of writing – you don’t have to know where you’re going. And the same goes for publishing!
My publishing goals are always changing because I aim to achieve what’s just outside of my capabilities. Next time round, I have more knowledge and reach higher.
Don’t settle for what you’ve always done. Research, try new things and push your boundaries!
MORE THAN 150 BOOKS FREE IN KU!
We spend all this time trying to build our followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, then post an update and no one sees it! Frustrated? Yep.
That’s why building your newsletter is the most powerful tool you have. You have direct access to your fans and even if you haven’t launched a book for twelve months, you know exactly how to find them.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not as easy as adding a bunch of people to your list and they’ll buy all your books. It’s your responsibility to turn your subscribers into true fans.
But of course, you can’t turn them into true fans if you don’t have anyone on your list.
Getting our help isn’t as expensive as you might think. Let us build your newsletter for as little as $20 per month. Or we can teach you how to do it yourself.
Visit our website or email with any questions.
Put your hand up if you’ve made mistakes in your writing career!
Yep, I’m guilty. Because I didn’t know then what I know now. But we don’t always have to make our own mistakes, we can actually learn from others.
I found a bunch of writers who know more than me and I developed friendships with them. We share advice and vent about our failures, but we also talk about our successes and help each other aim higher.
Maybe you’re just starting out and you don’t know where to find other authors. I’ve been in that position too. Actually, back in the early days I didn’t even think I wanted to know other authors. But I was SO wrong. We’re stronger when we’re together.
If you’re a writer, you’re welcome to join our private Facebook group. Often we arrange cheap promotions to participate in but the group is open to any book related discussions too ♥
